Fully Automatic PLC Controlled PET Strap Production Line Servo
Drive System Precision Manufacturing
The CM-PET80-SERVO represents the pinnacle of automation
integration in PET strap manufacturing. Built around a Sie-mens
S7-1200 PLC with a 12-inch color touchscreen HMI and a full servo
drive architecture spanning seven independent motion axes, this
line transforms the production floor from a collection of
individually adjusted mechanical stations into a unified, digitally
synchronized manufacturing cell. Every critical motion — from
extruder screw rotation through haul-off speed, stretching roll
velocity cascade, embossing roller synchronization, and winding
traverse motion — is executed by closed-loop servo motors that
maintain position and speed accuracy within 0.01%, eliminating the
speed drift, mechanical wear, and adjustment subjectivity inherent
in conventional AC motor and gearbox driven lines.
The servo drive architecture begins at the extruder, where a
high-torque servo motor replaces the traditional AC motor and gear
reducer combination. Direct servo control eliminates gear backlash
effects on screw speed consistency and provides full torque across
the entire 0-120 RPM operating range — a significant advantage
during low-speed startup and grade transition phases where
conventional motors operate below their efficient torque band. On
the stretching station, five independent servo-driven rolls replace
mechanically linked roll cascades. This allows the PLC to execute
software-defined draw ratio profiles that can be instantly adjusted
through the HMI, rather than requiring physical gear or pulley
changes. The winding station servo controls both spindle rotation
and traverse guide position, enabling programmable winding patterns
including step-precision layer winding for coils with perfectly
flat sides — a quality feature that reduces coil damage during
stacking and transport.
The Sie-mens S7-1200 PLC provides the central intelligence. Fifty
process parameters — including barrel zone temperatures, melt
pressure before and after the screen changer, individual servo
motor torque and speed, die head pressure, and cooling water
temperature — are continuously monitored and logged at 1 Hz to
internal memory with a 30-day rolling storage capacity. This data
can be exported via USB or Ethernet for offline process analysis
and quality documentation. The HMI presents production data through
a customizable dashboard with real-time trend charts, alarm history
with timestamped records, and recipe management for up to 100
product configurations. An optional VPN module enables secure
remote access for off-site diagnostics and process support,
reducing downtime by allowing our technical team to analyze machine
data and guide troubleshooting without waiting for an engineer to
travel to the production site.
Key Features- 7-Axis Full Servo Architecture: Independent servo motors on extruder, haul-off, 5 stretching
rolls, and winder eliminate mechanical speed linkages, enabling
software-defined process profiles and instant recipe changes.
- Sie-mens S7-1200 PLC Control: Industrial-grade controller with PROFINET communication provides
deterministic real-time control, comprehensive alarm management,
and integration-ready architecture for factory MES/ERP
connectivity.
- 12-Inch Touchscreen HMI: Intuitive dashboard interface with real-time process trends,
drag-and-drop recipe management, and context-sensitive help screens
reduces operator training time and configuration errors.
- 50-Parameter Data Logging: Continuous 1 Hz recording of all critical process variables with
30-day storage enables traceability for quality audits, process
optimization studies, and root-cause analysis of production issues.
- Software-Defined Draw Ratios: Individual servo control of each stretching roll allows draw
ratios to be adjusted through the HMI without mechanical changes,
supporting rapid product development and grade transitions.
- Programmable Winding Patterns: Servo-controlled traverse motion enables step-precision winding
for flat-sided coils, dual-traverse parallel winding for high-speed
applications, and customizable coil dimensions.
- Remote Diagnostics Ready: Optional VPN module enables secure off-site access for technical
support, reducing downtime by allowing remote troubleshooting and
parameter adjustment without waiting for on-site service visits.

ApplicationsThe CM-PET80-SERVO is targeted at manufacturers who view automation
investment as a competitive differentiator rather than a cost. The
servo architecture delivers quantifiable benefits across three
dimensions: quality consistency, where closed-loop speed control
eliminates the batch-to-batch variation that requires manual
quality sorting; operational efficiency, where recipe-based
changeover reduces width or grade transition time to under 5
minutes without physical adjustments; and labor optimization, where
a single operator can supervise the entire line thanks to automated
process monitoring and alarm management. The data logging
capability is particularly valuable for manufacturers supplying
quality-certified strapping to automotive, pharmaceutical, or
export packaging applications where lot traceability documentation
is a customer requirement. The line's PROFINET communication
backbone also positions it for integration into Industry 4.0
factory environments, enabling centralized production monitoring,
OEE calculation, and automated production reporting within the
customer's existing manufacturing execution system.
Packaging and Quality AssuranceFactory acceptance testing for each CM-PET80-SERVO includes a
comprehensive automation validation: all servo axes undergo
individual and coordinated motion tests with tracking error
verification, the PLC program undergoes a structured walkthrough
covering all operating modes and alarm scenarios, and the HMI is
validated through a complete recipe lifecycle test including
creation, editing, execution, and data export. The electrical
control cabinet is assembled, tested, and then sealed with a
nitrogen purge system that maintains positive internal pressure
throughout ocean freight to prevent condensation damage.
ESD-sensitive components including the HMI panel and servo drives
are individually wrapped in static-shielding bags within the main
crate. The documentation package includes full electrical
schematics in IEC format, a PLC program backup on USB, a printed
HMI navigation guide in English, and a commissioning checklist. Our
automation engineer provides five days of on-site commissioning
including PLC program tailoring for the customer's specific
production workflow, recipe parameter optimization, and operator
training on both production operation and basic troubleshooting
procedures.
